West Hollywood Lifestyle Guide
Trendy. Creative. Rebellious. West Hollywood has established its reputation as a community with a sense of defiance against restrictive norms. As early as the 1920s, people have gathered in the area that we know today as West Hollywood because it was less restricted than other parts of Los Angeles. Affectionately referred to as “WeHo,” this community in the heart of Los Angeles is full of style and substance.
Artistic expression can be seen almost everywhere in West Hollywood. WeHo has a number of museums and galleries that would make an art enthusiast swoon with delight.
Admire the architecture and the exhibits at Moca at Pacific Design Center, where admission is free. Fans of Andy Warhol, Robert Longo, and Roy Lichtenstein can view and even purchase their own pop and contemporary art piece at Hamilton Selway Fine Art.
West Hollywood is known as the home of a vibrant and active LGBT community. WeHo ordinances prohibit discrimination based on one’s sexual orientation in the workplace and award same-sex couples the same rights and benefits that are granted heterosexual couples. Every June, this community gathers for the annual Gay Pride Parade. ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives has a gallery and museum on Robertson Boulevard and is a definite must-see when in WeHo.
WeHo does not lack for trendy restaurants offering their customers seriously delicious fare. Night + Market WeHo is bright orange with neon signs, serving Thai cuisine with serious punch.
Fancy some caviar? Head on to Petrossian Paris Restaurant & Boutique and sample their caviar salad. It’s the stuff that dreams are made of. For cocktails and after-dinner drinks, Eveleigh is the place to go. To cap off your lovely evening, there is always Bar Marmont, housed in the legendary West Hollywood institution that is Chateau Marmont.
Young minds in WeHo are honed through schools administered by the Los Angeles Unified School District. Expect WeHo locals to be articulate in expressing their opinions and their true selves. There are a number of great private and public schools that serve the students of West Hollywood.
