Bel Air

This high-end residential area located on the Westside has long been home to Hollywood’s many celebrities. One of its most influential residents was former President Ronald Reagan and it’s also been the neighborhood of choice of well-loved stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Judy Garland and Meg Ryan.

This prestigious enclave of exclusive properties, many of which are among the largest in the region, has been meant for the privileged few since the community’s inception back in the 1920s. Bel Air continues to fascinate and it has become the playground in which several generations of the most creative architects and interior designers have made their most ambitious architectural and design visions come alive. Home to some of the most expensive homes in the world, Bel Air was included in Worthly.com’s list of the most expensive neighborhoods in Los Angeles.

Bel Ar is divided into three neighborhoods: East Gate Old Bel Air, West Gate Bel Air and Upper Bel Air. It’s one of the three areas that make up L.A.’s famed Platinum Triangle, the other two being Beverly Hills and Holmby Hills.

Homes and Real Estate in Bel Air

Bel Air’s streets are lined with some of the most amazing residential properties in the world. One of the most famous estates here is Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion. You’ll also find massive mansions like Chateau des Fleurs, which was once the biggest single-family home in L.A. County. This palatial estate sprawls across three acres of land, with over 40,000 square feet of space.

The 16-acre Moraga Estate, also known as the Moraga Vineyards and Winery can also be found here. It was purchased by media tycoon Rupert Murdoch in 2013.

You’ll find some of L.A.’s best educational institutions in Bel Air, including Roscomare Road Elementary School and Community Magnet Charter Elementary School on Bellagio Road, whose students have consistently ranked high in LAUSD’s standardized tests. This school was also able to bag the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award.

The gorgeous Hannah Carter Japanese Garden, which is akin to the beautifully manicured gardens found in Kyoto, is one of Bel Air’s gems. The 5-star Hotel Bel-Air, a Dorchester Collection member, can be found here as well.
